ATO obligations a challenge to manage?

If your client is falling behind on tax obligations, the warning signs are usually clear. The good news: there may still be a practical way forward.
  • An ATO payment plan that's grown harder to keep up with
  • General interest charge (GIC) adding up faster than it's being paid down
  • Cash flow going to old debt instead of new opportunities
  • A director penalty notice risk they'd rather not think about
  • Banjo sees tax debt for what it usually is

Many SMEs are growing, seasonal, or catching up after a tough stretch. Banjo looks at the whole business — including trading performance, cash flow and the story behind the numbers — so ATO arrears do not automatically mean a knockback.
Banjo backs SMEs every day. We’re built around how business really works.

Check the deal before your client commits

An initial rate offer assessment is the first step in Banjo's application process. It lets you check suitability on your client's behalf, and reach a conditional approval with indicative terms — without heavy client involvement, and without impacting their credit score.
Enquire — Share the basics of your client's situation with your Banjo contact, or through the partner portal
Assess — Banjo's credit team reviews suitability against the client's trading and cash flow position
Indicative terms — You receive a conditional approval with indicative rate and terms to take back
Confirm — Once your client is on board, the full application and verification process begins
No credit score impact. Less client involvement. A fast, clear view on whether the deal stacks up — so you're not raising false hope with your client.

    FAQs

Does the initial credit assessment affect my client's credit score?

No. The initial assessment is designed to check suitability and give you indicative terms without impacting your client's credit file. Read more here.

Does my client need to be heavily involved at this stage?

No. You can enquire and get an indicative answer on their behalf. Deeper client involvement only happens once there's a deal worth progressing.

What kind of ATO debt can be consolidated?

Existing payment plans, accruing general interest charge, and current ATO debt not yet on a plan can all be considered — talk to Banjo about the specifics of your client's situation.

How much can my client borrow?

Banjo business loans for this purpose range from $20k to $2m*, sized to the debt and the business's trading position.

    What security is required?

Directors guarantees are always required however other forms of security depends on the size and structure of the facility. Your Banjo contact will confirm what applies to your client's specific scenario as part of the assessment.

How quickly can we get an indicative answer?

The initial rate offer assessment is designed to be fast — talk to Banjo about current turnaround for your scenario. Call 1300 22 65 65 to discuss.

What if my client already has other business finance in place?

That's common, and it's factored into the assessment. Banjo looks at the whole business, including existing facilities, not just the ATO debt in isolation.

Who do I talk to if I'm not sure where a deal fits?

Harry is your direct contact for exactly this — try the eligibility tool first and then book a session with Harry to workshop the scenario further if needed.
